Google Pixel 9 Pro Review 2026: Still the Best Compact AI Flagship?

Google Pixel 9 Pro
Google Pixel 9 Pro

The Google Pixel 9 Pro launched in August 2024 and remains one of the most compelling compact Android flagships in early 2026. With its refined Tensor G4 chipset, revolutionary Gemini AI features, and class-leading computational photography, it delivers a premium experience in a pocket-friendly 6.3-inch form factor.

If you want a powerful phone that excels at photos, video calls, and smart AI without the bulk of a Pro XL, the Pixel 9 Pro is still an excellent choice—especially now that street prices have dropped significantly.

Design & Build Quality

The Pixel 9 Pro features a premium redesign with a polished stainless steel frame, a matte glass back, and a flatter camera bar. At 199g and 8.5mm thick, it feels balanced and premium. It carries an IP68 rating and introduces an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, which is much faster and more reliable than the optical sensors in previous Pixels.

Stunning Super Actua Display

Google Pixel 9 Pro 6.3-inch LTPO OLED panel supports a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, peaks at 3,000 nits of brightness, and offers 2K resolution (1280 x 2856). Colors are vibrant, blacks are deep, and outdoor visibility is outstanding. It also supports HDR10+ and includes a new “Display Brightness Boost” for extreme conditions.

Performance & Software

Google Pixel 9 Pro Powered by the Google Tensor G4 with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, the Pixel 9 Pro handles multitasking, gaming, and AI workloads smoothly. While it doesn’t match the raw power of Snapdragon 8 Elite, Google’s optimization and 7 years of OS + security updates (until 2031) make it incredibly future-proof.

Camera System: Still the King of Photography

The triple 48MP setup (main + ultrawide + 5x telephoto) combined with Google’s AI processing continues to deliver magical results. The 48MP 5x periscope is a massive upgrade over the 8 Pro’s 5x, offering sharper details and better low-light performance. The 42MP selfie camera is now one of the best on any phone.
