Nothing Phone 2 Pro

Nothing Phone 2 Pro: Looking for the best budget phone under $300 in 2025? The CMF Phone 2 Pro from Nothing’s sub-brand might just be your answer. Priced at $279, this quirky mid-ranger packs a punch with its modular design, clean software, and surprising camera versatility. But is it truly a “bargain powerhouse” as WIRED calls it, or does it fall short in the crowded sub-$300 segment dominated by the Samsung Galaxy A26 and Motorola Moto G Power 2025?

In this CMF Nothing Phone 2 Pro review, we dive deep into its performance, camera quality, battery life, display, and software after a month of real-world testing. Spoiler: It’s one of the most fun and capable budget phones of 2025, but with a few compromises that might make you think twice.

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Specifications: At a Glance

Before we get into the details, here’s a quick specs overview to see how it stacks up:

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Design & Build: Quirky Modular Magic That Stands Out

Nothing’s CMF sub-brand has always been about fun, and the Nothing Phone 2 Pro doubles down with its industrial, screw-exposed aesthetic. At 7.8mm thick and 185g, it’s slimmer and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy A26 (8.0mm, 192g), slipping into pockets like a mid-ranger while feeling premium with its aluminum frame and Panda Glass front.

What Makes It Special:

  • Modular Back: Four stainless steel screws let you swap the back plate for accessories like a kickstand, wallet, or lanyard (sold separately for $29). It’s gimmicky but fun – unlike the Nothing Phone (3a), where mods snap on magnetically.
  • Color Options: The Light Green and Orange variants have a frosted, matte finish that’s fingerprint-resistant and grippy. The Black is more subdued but still unique with visible internals.
  • Durability: IP54 rating handles splashes and dust, and Nothing claims it survives 25cm water submersion for 20 minutes – better than the Moto G Power 2025’s IP52.

In my testing, the screws are purely aesthetic (back isn’t removable), but they add personality that budget phones lack. The frame is flat for easy gripping, but the volume rocker feels a bit mushy.

Build Score: 8.5/10 – Quirky and comfortable, but not as tough as Samsung’s IP67.

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Display: Vibrant AMOLED with Thin Bezels and HDR Support

Nothing Phone 2 Pro The 6.77-inch AMOLED (1080 x 2400, 400ppi) is a standout for budget phones:

  • Refresh Rate: 120Hz adaptive for smooth scrolling – edges out the Galaxy A26’s 90Hz.
  • Brightness: 2,000 nits peak (tested 1,800 in auto) – visible in direct sun, better than the Moto G Power’s 1,000 nits.
  • Color & HDR: 10-bit color, 100% DCI-P3, HDR10+ – movies on Netflix look vibrant, with Delta E <2 for accurate editing.

The thin bezels (1.8mm) make it feel premium, and 2,160Hz PWM dimming reduces eye strain. Gaming feels fluid, but the 20:9 aspect crops some videos awkwardly.

Display Drawbacks:

  • No LTPO (min 60Hz at low brightness).
  • Slight color shift at extreme angles.

Display Score: 9/10 – Nothing Phone 2 Pro One of the best screens under $300.

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Performance: Dimensity 7300 Pro Handles Daily Tasks with Ease

The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro (4nm) + 8GB RAM is a solid mid-ranger:

  • Benchmarks: AnTuTu 750,000; Geekbench 1,200 single-core/3,500 multi-core – 15% faster than the CMF Phone 1.
  • Daily Use: Smooth for 15+ apps, web browsing, and 1080p video editing.
  • Gaming:
  • BGMI: 60FPS stable (High graphics).
  • Genshin Impact: 45FPS on Medium (no throttling after 30 mins).
  • COD Mobile: 90FPS with minor drops.

Heating peaks at 42°C during gaming, and the vapor chamber keeps it cool. Compared to the Galaxy A26 (Exynos 1380), it’s snappier in multitasking; the Moto G Power lags behind.

Performance Score: 8/10 – Great for most users, but not a gaming beast.

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Camera: Versatile Quad Setup with Telephoto Surprise

The quad camera system is the Phone 2 Pro’s biggest upgrade:

  • 50MP Main (f/1.8, OIS): Sharp daylight shots with natural colors and 13EV dynamic range – excellent for social media.
  • 50MP Telephoto (2x optical, f/2.0): Rare in budget phones; portraits have creamy bokeh, and 2x zoom is sharp up to 10x digital.
  • 8MP Ultrawide (f/2.2, 120°): Decent for landscapes, but soft edges and noise in low light.
  • 2MP Depth Sensor: Aids portraits but otherwise unused.

Selfie (16MP, f/2.0): Good in daylight, soft in dim conditions.

Video: 4K@30fps with decent stabilization – no 60fps, but better than the CMF Phone 1.

Low-light is average: Main holds detail up to ISO 3200, but ultrawide struggles. GCam mods improve dynamic range.

Camera Score: 8.5/10 – The telephoto makes it versatile; beats the Galaxy A26 but trails the Pixel 9a.

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Battery Life & Charging: All-Day Reliability

The 5,000mAh battery is a winner:

  • Screen-On Time: 8–10 hours heavy use (gaming + streaming).
  • Standby: 3–4% drain overnight.
  • Full Day Test: 7 hours SOT (social 3h, YouTube 2h, browsing 2h) – ended at 25%.

33W wired charging:

  • 0–50% in 30 minutes
  • 0–100% in 65 minutes
  • No wireless, but 5W reverse wired for accessories.

It edges the Moto G Power (7 hours SOT) and matches the Galaxy A26. No major heating during charging.

Battery Score: 9/10 – Reliable all-day performer.

Nothing Phone 2 Pro Software: Nothing OS 3.2 – Clean, Fun, and Bloat-Free

Nothing OS 3.2 (Android 15) is a breath of fresh air:

  • Minimalist Design: Monochrome icons, dot-matrix AOD – unique and eye-catching.
  • Essential Key: Customizable button for quick actions (camera, flashlight).
  • AI Features: Smart widgets, scene recognition in camera.
  • Support: 3 Android updates (to Android 18) + 4 years security – better than CMF Phone 1’s 2+3.

No bloatware – a rarity in budget phones. Gesture navigation is smooth, but no Always-On animations like pricier Nothing phones.

Software Score: 9/10 – Clean and customizable; one of the best budget UIs.
